Receiving a LTL or Truck Freight shipment General Information Regarding Sheet Metal Products
Receiving a LTL or Truck Freight shipment Signature service is required for delivery. You must include a phone number with your order so the delivering carrier can contact you prior to delivery. Every panel that we sell is inspected by the manufacturer, and then carefully packaged to protect against damage that may occur during transit. Of course, we cannot protect our sheet metal against gross negligence on the part of the delivering carrier, and shipping damage (though rare) has been known to happen. Car Parts Discount is not liable for any damage to your sheet metal during shipment, and it is the responsibility of the consignee to inspect each item before signing for, and receiving it. If you notice visible damage to the box your panel was shipped in, or damage to the part itself, please note that on the delivery receipt prior to signing it, refuse the shipment, and then contact us for replacement instructions.DO NOT sign for any merchandise without inspecting each item first. Once the delivery receipt is signed without noting any damages, the parts are yours to keep. General Information Regarding Sheet Metal Products The sheet metal you receive may have scratches, dings, small dents, and other minor imperfections which are considered normal sheet metal characteristics due to the nature of the product. These minor imperfections will be easily corrected during the filling, priming, and sanding phase of your sheet metal installation. Car Parts Discount does not consider dings, scratches, minor dents, or other imperfections on the sheet metal to be defects nor are they considered damaged. All sheet metal panels will require some sort of preparation and manipulation during installation.
Car Parts Discount recommends test fitting all sheet metal panels prior to final paint and installation. Minor modifications (including elongating mounting holes, adding additional shims, etc.) are normal and may be necessary when installing sheet metal. It is important to note that:
Hard driving conditions, like racing, can twist bodies and frames out of original tolerances. Poor body work from previous collisions can cause problems with the body structure that the panels are attached to. Vehicles that have been sitting motionless, collecting rust, etc. may have a slumping or slouched frame.
All of these situations can cause sheet metal panel misalignments. Please also consider that tolerances on classic vehicles are not nearly as exact as they are on modern vehicles. This is primarily due to the hand-fitting of the original panels at the factory (which causes unique bolt-hole patterns) on most vintage and classic cars, as opposed to the robotics used in today's modern factories (which yield standard, precise bolt-hole patterns). Mounting points and bolt-hole locations are always approximate, and vary according to the factory that the panel was stamped at and the person at that factory who drilled and mounted it. So really, there is no such thing as a direct fit body panel when it comes to older vehicles.
Car Parts Discount always recommends that you hire a professional paint and body person that has the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to install the new panels on your vehicle. A professional body person will be able to prepare the panels for installation and anticipate/repair any imperfections. Rest assured, we sell the same high-quality panels, from the same manufacturer, that you would find from all major retailers in the automotive restoration industry.
Prior to returning any defective body panel or sheet metal item to us, please contact our customer service department. You will be required to send us a digital picture of all defects before you receive return authorization. We will not replace a panel should it be deemed that the panel is not defective, nor will we give compensation for labor fees associated with installation.
