Cores

What is a Core charge?

What is a Core charge?
Many mechanical assemblies, such as alternators, starters, master cylinders, and more can be refurbished at a lower cost than manufacturing a 100% new assembly. In the automotive business this is referred to as a "Remanufactured" or "Reman" part. Expensive but reusable components such as metal castings and machined shafts are cleaned and checked to make sure they are within new-part tolerances, while worn items such as o-rings, gaskets and electrical brushes are replaced with new components. The quality of this remanufactured assembly is often just as good as a brand new unit, but can be sold at a lower cost than a 100% new assembly. This process produces an extremely reliable part, and helps the environment by recycling reusable materials and requiring less energy to manufacture.

You will notice that many of these items mention a "core" refund in the part description. This refund is to encourage you to return your old part so the refurbishing company has rebuildable parts to supply to future customers. This amount will be refunded to you once your old core is returned.

To receive a refund for your core:

1. The core must be deemed rebuildable by the manufacturer. The core can't be cracked, smashed, rusted solid, or otherwise unusable.
2. The returned core must include all the components that came with the remanufactured part. (You can't return a partial assembly after you took it apart and tried to fix it yourself.)
3. The core must be returned within six months of the date your order was placed.
4. The core must fit the same vehicle application and be returned in the box the remanufactured part arrived in.

Shipping charges on cores are not refundable. Before sending back a core you'll need to decide if the core deposit is worth the shipping cost. As with any return, before returning a core you must obtain a Return Authorization Number and follow return instructions from one of our customer service specialists.
