For only a few short years, AMC produced a sporty 2-seater called the AMX. This was a true muscle car in every sense of the word, sourcing its power from a selection of different 4-bbl V8 engines and sending it to the rear wheels of this 3,000-lb car. Most popular was the high-output 390ci V8, capable of between 315-420hp (depending on the production year). Sales of AMC AMX models with the 390 made up two-thirds of total sales during the three years it was produced, which made it far and away the most popular configuration. Huge amounts of performance American Motors AMX parts were available to buyers at the time of purchase, and were often put on at the dealership. Today, these highly customized and sought after cars are the bell of the ball at any car show. Fun fact: only 19,134 of these cars were produced in the 3 production years.
