Suspension Rebuild Kit

Aftermarket & OEM Suspension Rebuild Kit

Good cars, trucks, and SUVs are driven well by their owners, and the cost of keeping up a good vehicle is installing a new suspension rebuild kit. None of the bushings, ball joints, or links on your suspension are meant to last forever. It's inevitable to wear down the control arm bushings after a decade or so, and it's also inevitable for the ball joints to lose their grease and seize up. Shocks and struts will also leak oil or lose their gas charge if given enough time as well. And if neither one of those get you, then rust eventually will. Moisture eats metal and rubber for breakfast, and it takes no prisoners. That's why a new suspension rebuild kit should be on menu for any driver who wants to get a few more years out of their car. If it's a classic car you are restoring, then there's no question you'll be needing to replace the steering linkage and suspension bushings.

No matter what vehicle you drive, you have control arms, ball joints, tie rods, sway bars, and either shocks or struts on the front end. It's not uncommon for one or all of these to wear out after ten years or so. But a good car with a good engine could be good for twice that if the suspension is rebuilt... especially a classic from the 1960s or 1970s. Those cars and trucks had durable double wishbone suspensions and recirculating-ball steering systems. These had lots of moving metal parts and lots of bushings and ball joints in between them. Newer vehicles had a MacPherson strut suspension and rack and pinion steering that eliminated the need for upper control arms and center links, but required a mount at the top of the inner fender for the strut. Often times that is the place for a lot of rot and rust, and all of those parts will be included in your suspension rebuild kit.

Suspension rebuild kits often include all the parts you need to fix your suspension and steering linkage. You'll find tie rod ends, control arm bushings, sway bar links, a center link (if applicable), and sometimes struts with strut mounts. All of these are fairly straight forward installs with a degree of difficulty of about 3 out of 5. An entire suspension rebuild kit will take a good day to install. Have all the appropriately sized sockets, a breaker bar, torque wrench, a jack and jack stands, and lots of patience.
