BMW Windshield Wiper Blades
The function of the BMW Windshield Wiper Blades is to clear the view for the driver when there is an obstruction on the windshield. This includes the cleaning of rain as it falls along with snow and all of those pesky bugs that make contact with it.
If it was only rain that the windshield wiper blades had to clear off, they would last a considerable longer allotment of time. As any driver of a BMW is aware of, this is not true. The most common thing that is cleared away from the glass by the BMW windshield wiper blades in the fall and spring time are bugs. The greater the wear on your windshield wiper blades, the larger amount of smear will occur. This is especially noticed by owners of a vehicle that are driving in the spring time. The elements over the winter months damage the windshield wiper blades. This is why on many BMW owners periodical maintenance schedule the changing of the wiper blades will occur each and every spring.
The danger of not replacing the wiper blades on time is more than just having an obstructed view of the road ahead. Once the polymer portion of the wipers is worn or missing, the metal components of the wipers can come in direct contact with the glass windshield. If the wipers are turned on when this condition is present, the glass will be come permanently scratched. This is an undesirable condition, but will occur if the windshield wiper blades are not replaced when the polymer section of them is worn-out.
The replacement of this and all other components that contain polymer should be on the periodical maintenance schedule of the vehicle. This way additional damage to the BMW can be avoided.
