Praised for its outstanding weight distribution and horsepower per liter, the E30 318is was often compared to the first generation M3. It benefited from technological advancements made at the time such as new Bosch fuel injection, hydraulic valve lifters under the dual overhead cams, and an ignition coil for each cylinder. This engine would continue to be used on all E36 318is models (with the exception of the 96-97 models); however they were a bit heavier so now the entry level model felt like just that. It would never fair well in a drag race, but always provided spirited driving experiences. BMW 318is parts are performance oriented, and sometimes costly to replace. But have no fear, when shopping online you can trust to find low prices right here. Fun fact: from 1996-97, the 318is had a 1.9L engine rather than a 1.8L engine.
