The 300 name originally represented the gross horsepower rating on Chrysler's highest performance car. The letter-series models started with B and changed names each year up to L skipping the I. A non-letter series which offered less performance and features was also offered but the name was largely forgotten until 1998 when the 300M was launched. The 2005 Chrysler 300 parts were shared with parent company Mercedes-Benz to make a return to the classic 300 style.
