The PT Cruiser rode the wave of the retro-future styling fad popular in the early 2000s. Oddly its styling was based on the 1940 Ford and was originally going to be sold as a Plymouth until that brand was discontinued. The Plymouth influence can be seen in the cross-hatch grille.
