It takes a well-made vehicle to completely dominate the market for over 30 years. The Ford E-150 Econoline is that vehicle. It, along with its E-250 and E-350 siblings, has sold more than any other full-size van in the US since 1980. In 1975, the Econoline underwent a huge bodystyle transformation in which none of the previous Ford E-150 Econoline parts were retained except for the optional Windsor 302ci V8 engine. The new full-size van got longer, stronger, and was much less expensive to produce thanks to sharing an abundance of components with the contemporary F-Series truck. The refresh in 1992 incorporated the same philosophy of building a new sleekly designed van over a tough full-size pickup platform. Fun fact: the 1992 E-150 Econoline was the first full-size van to be built with a standard driver's airbag.
