Originally built on the Accord platform with a minivan chassis, the Odyssey debuted without much of a splash. The first generation Honda Odyssey parts were very much the same as the Accord (except for the body work) because of economic regulations imposed by the Japanese government. It was also sold to Isuzu and badged as the Oasis for a few years. For the second generation, Honda built a dedicated plant in Alabama for the construction of larger vehicles. And that it did. The next and subsequent generations of the Odyssey were larger, offered more power, more options, and sold better.
