Not an SUV - a crossover. The Hyundai Tucson debuted in 2004 as a competitor to the Rav4 and Escape. Built on the same platform as the Elantra, the Tucson was introduced with moderate success. The exterior was not terribly inspiring, and the interior wasn't very eye-catching either. However it was priced lower than its competition (as is usual for Hyundai) thanks to the production scale and availability of Hyundai Tucson parts. The second generation is really when this vehicle came to life. The engines became stronger and more fuel efficient and safety features such as stability and braking control became standard.
