History of Jeep

Jeep LogoSince 1941, Jeep has been a name synonymous with utility. Not only is it the oldest off-road and sport utility vehicle brand in the world, but it has been on the forefront of 4x4 (4-Wheel-Drive) technology and engineering since its inception. The company began life as a contract between Willys and the US Military, producing inexpensive and reliable vehicles and Jeep parts capable of performing on virtually any terrain. Their line has predominantly included sport utility and off-road vehicles, but has at one time also included pickup trucks.

The most popular model is the Wrangler or CJ (Civilian Jeep). It is a no-frills 4x4 with solid axles, and is commonly modified by members of the off-road community. Enthusiasts will typically raise ground clearance a few inches with an aftermarket suspension kit, install larger and stronger tires, modify sway bars and end links, and more. However, serious modification can come with a cost. Often times, drivers keep replacement parts like wheel bearings, axles, brake pads and rotors on hand just in case they are needed.

Jeep's next most popular model would definitely be the Grand Cherokee. It offers a variety of luxury amenities (especially in the Limited and Overland trim levels) like GPS, heated seats, and premium stereo systems. It also is equipped with a very capable L6 or V8 engine mated to a durable transmission and drive train. This combination has made the Grand Cherokee a strong contender in the SUV market. And, much like the Wrangler, new factory and aftermarket parts are readily available for this model as well. is not associated with FCA US LLC in any manner.
