Originally a chassis-on-frame vehicle, the Kia Sorento entered the market with above average towing ability for a rear wheel drive or 4WD mid-size SUV. Kia took a lot of flak for this construction design, however, and turned it into a unibody with front wheel drive in 2009. This made it not as capable off-road, but was lighter and more nimble around town. Plus, a completely redesigned exterior and interior, plus new more powerful engines made this a true crossover SUV that a cost-conscious buyer could appreciate. And despite its low price tag, Kia Sorento parts are all of the best quality. Fun fact: the 2011 Kia Sorento was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS - the following year a driver of the same 2011 Kia Sorento travelled at speeds exceeding 100mph for 35 minutes because their accelerator pedal was stuck.
