Originally a conception between Kia and then ally Ford, the first Kia Sportage parts were mostly sourced from existing Mazda vehicles. While still being distinctly its own vehicle, the first generation was built under the guidance of both Ford and Hyundai. It never sold well due to poor build quality, safety concerns, and recalls. For the subsequent generations, however, Kia really stepped up their game and produced a crossover SUV that appealed to a market and satisfied its demands. Being both affordable and safe, the Kia Sportage is a great alternative to other vehicles in the market. Add to that the low cost to insure, Kia's unbelievable warranty coverage, stylish looks and a powerful, fuel-efficient engine, and you've got one amazing vehicle. Fun fact: the Kia Sportage was the first vehicle ever to include a standard side airbag located at the knee.
