The Lexus ES300 parts were shared with the Toyota Camry in many cases. That may not sound right for a luxury car but the Camry parts were reliable and solid and made a good base for the ES. After the ES250, Toyota changed the design process and started by designing the Lexus first and then going back and making it a Camry. The ES300 quickly became the best selling model in the Lexus lineup and a star in the near luxury class. Later models even had such advanced features as adaptive suspension and variable valve timing. The successful approach continues to this day. The 300 in the model name signifies the 3.0 liter V6 engine. Later ES models feature larger engines.
