Just when you thought the personal luxury car couldn't get any bigger, along came the Lincoln Mark IV. The Lincoln Mark IV parts continued on with the vinyl roof and opera windows. For the final year, a series of Designer Editions were offered. These were actually developed with the input of fashion designers and houses like Bill Blass, Cartier, Pucci, and Givenchy. As ever, only the big 460 cube V8 was offered to power this car. They were sold between 1972 and 1976 and sold ever better than the Mark III. There was also a version of the Mark IV sold in 1959 only. That model was ignored because Ford considered the 1968 Mark III and the 1972 Mark IV as the true heirs to the 1956 Continental Mark II legacy.
