Mazda 6 parts and styling replaced the dowdy 626 models. The first two generations were made in Flat Rock, Michigan but the current model is produced in Japan. The first generation was also offered as a hatchback and a station wagon. The Mazdaspeed version is the fun one with all-wheel drive and a turbo four cylinder though that model has been discontinued. The current model is a Car and Driver 10 best winner and will soon come with a diesel option. Since the 626, Mazda has worked to refine the car to become and mainstream offering and Mazda finally has a direct competitor to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The current Mazda 6 has beautiful styling based on the Shinari concept car.
