The Mazda 929 was Mazda's top of the line sedan for many years. It offered rear wheel drive and four wheel steering which were unique for that class of car. Mazda originally planned to replace the 929 with an all-new independent brand called Amati to compete more directly with Lexus and Acura but that brand was never launched. The Mazda 929 was replaced by the supercharged Millenia model but Mazda no longer offers a top line luxury model. The early 929 models featured a very square off style that exemplifies the three-box design. The final model introduced in 1992 features a very slick design that is a solid example of the 90s soap bar type of look with soft curves and an almost organic looking interior.
