The Mazda Protégé was a compact car ultimately replaced by the Mazda 3. It was offered as a 4-door sedan version of the Mazda 323. The first Protégé models came to the US market in 1989. Our website has a great list of Mazda Protégé parts. The protégé was available as an ES model that used the Miata's 1.8 liter twin cam engine. Two of the more interesting variants of the Mazda Protégé are the MP3 model featuring a 450-watt stereo and the Mazdaspeed version featuring a turbo engine and an available orange paint color. Both were offered during the Protégé's final years. The last generation was also available as a station wagon called the Protege5. The Protégé was ultimately replaced by the sedan version of the Mazda 3.
