In 1980, Mercedes-Benz decided to offer a large coupe in the 126 chassis flagship category. The Mercedes 500SEC became the 2-door sister vehicle to the 500SEL. Since only 45,000 of these vehicles were ever made (includes both 126 and 140 chassis), Mercedes-Benz 500SEC parts can be hard to come by. It has a smaller wheelbase and doesn't share very many exterior components, but its underpinnings and engine are virtually the same as its 4-door version. And though production numbers were low, this vehicle still remains a favorite of enthusiasts and aficionados alike due to its unique characteristics and novelty.
