It took 18 days to produce each Mercedes E500. Why? Because this vehicle was a joint venture between Porsche and Mercedes. Almost all Mercedes-Benz E500 parts were sourced and assembled by Mercedes at their plant in Sindelfingen, but the vehicle itself was put together at the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen. Each car would take multiple trips back and forth during different stages of production. There are many components found on this car that you would find on a 129 chassis SL model, including brakes, drive train, and engine components.
