One name for three cars! The Mercury Capri parts are not interchangeable for the three models so make sure that you have the correct ones. The first Capri was the German built Ford Capri. It was a sporty hatchback offered with four cylinder and V6 engines. The second generation launched in 1979 and shared the same platform as the Ford Mustang and was now made in the US. Engines were even the same as Mustang with the turbo fours and the 5.0 liter V8. It was discontinued in 1986 but the Capri name came back again in the early 90s, now as a front wheel drive Mazda 323-based roadster built in Australia. Ironically this model was intended to compete with the Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Capri name lasted only two decades but managed to appear on what were essentially three different cars.
