The Mitsubishi Galant name dates way back to 1969 and variants of the Galant were imported under the Dodge and Plymouth brand names. The first car marketed under the Mitsubishi Galant name in the US came in 1985. The car became their standard family sedan offering on the US market. The early Galant was sold as an upmarket version called the Sigma that eventually became the Diamante. The Galant name has been retired but will almost certainly return if Mitsubishi decides to launch a new sedan on the US market. More than five million of the cars have been made for different markets around the world.
