Several years before the SUV craze started, Mitsubishi was there with their Montero SUV. Known as the Pajero in most parts of the world, the Montero name means "mountain hunter". It was a large SUV and one of the first on the US market and was critical to establishing Mitsubishi as a full line automaker in the United States. They always offered V6 engines for the four door model on the US market and became quite luxurious in their last few years. The third generation switched to unibody constructions and Mitsubishi Montero parts were designed completely in house for the first time. The model carries on in other markets but has not been offered in the US since 2007 when traditional SUV popularity began to wane.
