The Custom Cruiser was Oldsmobile's biggest wagon, with the capability to seat up to eight people. It was the first station wagon to have a power tailgate that the back glass went up into the roof and the tailgate went door into the floor. Even by 1970s standards it was a huge car. Most were sold loaded out with wood grain paneling and the Rocket 455 V8 engine. So recognized was the name that when General Motors redesigned the full-size B-body cars for 1991, the Oldsmobile was only offered as a station wagon while Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac received sedans. The Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser parts were discontinued in 1992 making it the last V8-powered rear wheel drive Oldsmobile. Any Custom Cruiser is rare but stylish sight on the road today.
