The Fury was Plymouth's top-of-the-line big car for many decades. For 1956-1958 it was a limited production model available only in white and gold. An even more limited series of 1958 cars were made with Bendix fuel injection. The first few years were styled by Virgil Exner. These were some very outlandishly styled cars. By the 1960s, the Plymouth Fury parts had adopted a more conservative design. The Fury became the sole Plymouth full-size vehicle and was offered in Sport Fury, VIP, and Gran trims depending on the year. In 1975, the Fury name moved to the midsize platform and the full-size became known as the Gran Fury. There was even a one year only Fury Road Runner offered in 1975. Every year from 1956-1989 offered a Fury except for 1979.
