According to the logical progression in Scion's naming convention, the third offering in their line should have been called the xC. Unfortunately, Volvo already took that moniker so it was called the tC. Claiming that it stands for "touring coupe", Scion released this front wheel drive 2-door coupe as a sporty alternative to their other two subcompact offerings at the time; a 4-door hatchback and 4-door box car. Scion tC parts were purposely easy to replace and upgrade when desired. The standard 2.4L 4-cylinder engine put out 160hp, which was adequate for a car of this size. However, for a limited time, the first generation tC could have received optional upgrades from TRD that included performance suspension components, big brake kits, performance clutch, exhaust system, cold air intake, and a supercharger. Fun fact: Scion tC's with these TRD upgrades all ran the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the Long Beach Grand Prix from 2006-2013, and the last two years were won by Adam Carolla
