The entry level compact car released by Subaru in the early 1970's was called the Leone. However, in North America the car was offered under its trim level designation. Lowest on the totem pole was the DL, and it could be built as a coupe, sedan, or wagon with front or optional all-wheel drive. The DL gave buyers the opportunity to drive a dependable and fuel-efficient Japanese vehicle at a price point lower than its competitors. Subaru DL parts are still available online, even though the car has been out of production for several decades.
