The Paseo came to market as a swoopy coupe version of the compact Tercel. It was sold through much of the 1990s over two generations and was available as a coupe or convertible. The Toyota Paseo parts are known for their longevity and reliability. All Paseo models had a variation of the Tercel's 1.5 liter four cylinder engine. Vehicles with California emissions had slightly reduced horsepower but the Paseo was never a powerful high performance car anyway. A late model convertible would be a good bet if you were looking for an affordable droptop. Although the Paseo was a practical car, it was never a big seller and was discontinued after the 1997 model year. A spiritual successor of the Paseo would be the Scion tC.
